Trade, transport and logistics.

Our team can assist with manufacturing, supply and distribution agreements, warehousing, transport and logistics agreements, stevedoring, and port operations. Our lawyers have worked with clients ranging from cosmetics and haircare manufacturers, to importers of luxury yachts, to logging and timber companies and food and beverage companiesWe can also advise on chain of responsibility obligations under the NHVL and due diligence defences.

Regulatory and trade.

Our team’s experience includes:

  • advising on exports of raw minerals to Iran, including risk of asset freezing and extra-territorial application of US sanctions and boycott laws
  • assisting US and Australian companies to navigate the regulatory compliance requirements to import and export defence encryption technology
  • avoiding the mandatory destruction of $5 million of goods our client had ‘on the water’, potentially subject to a biosecurity order
  • preparing export control plans and anti-bribery and corruption policies required for doing business with UK and US entities and under Australian law
  • providing a ‘road map’ to the federal and state regimes regulating the import, wholesale supply, and prescription of medical cannabis

Trade disputes.

We understand that things don’t always go to plan. Bespoke has the expertise and experience to assist clients to navigate issues that can arise in international trade. We work with clients or their insurers, providing timely and strategic advice to resolve disputes, navigate opaque regulatory regimes, minimise delay, maximise recovery and mitigate risk.

Our experience includes:

  • assisting freight forwarders and their insurers with recovery of 170 containers of goods seized by Customs in Vietnam as smuggled waste
  • taking physical custody of counterfeit goods, dangerous goods and waste in various jurisdictions (Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Australia), arranging for re-export and entry to Australia, or lawful disposal of the goods overseas
  • advising various clients and their insurer in regard to goods damaged in transit


We work with importers, freight forwarders and Licensed Customs Brokers providing practical, focussed advice. We can assist with:

  • advice on tariff classification of goods, customs valuations, TCOs, free trade agreements, and country of origin
  • preparing applications, submissions and appeals of Customs’ Tariff Classification Advice, Customs Valuation Ruling, Origin Tulings and TCOs
